Yun Jin is a Senior Associate in LAW Partnership with a range of experience in commercial law, intellectual property, and dispute resolution.
In addition to Yun Jin’s experience in commercial law such as drafting or reviewing of commercial agreements, he also focuses on compliance issues, in particular, anti-corruption investigation, government procurement, audit and prevention. Due to the nature of his work, Yun Jin was selected to be seconded to the Shell Malaysia Downstream Legal Department recently where he acted as legal counsel for the Lubricants, Retail and Non-Fuel Retailing (NFR) businesses. Whilst in Shell, Yun Jin partnered with the businesses to identify and mitigate risks of business activities in relation to both local legislation and its Code of Conduct such as Data Privacy, Trade Competition and Anti Bribery and Corruption. He was also tasked to evaluate new business partnerships with vendors and subcontractors including creating a robust contractual framework and attending to drafting and vetting of various commercial contracts, NDAs etc. He guided the businesses on regulatory and compliance issues to ensure compliance with legal regulations.
Yun Jin is also experienced in assisting trademark disputes and commercial IP work, particularly in the enforcement of IP rights. He has also coordinated and executed raids and enforcement exercises with law enforcement officers for trademark infringement and copyright matters. He has also assisted in a regional anti-counterfeiting programme. He has also assisted a multinational conglomerate on the enforcement of its trademark and copyright rights against multiple infringers - both online and offline.
Yun Jin has advised on various internet infringement matters involving the illegal dissemination of copyrighted contents and the sale of counterfeit goods over the internet. He has also assisted a multinational conglomerate on the enforcement of its trademark and copyright rights against multiple infringers both online and offline. Some of Yun Jin’s noteworthy experience include advising and assisting world-renowned multinational companies with their IP enforcement and anti-counterfeiting strategies in ensuring that their IP rights are safeguarded.
Yun Jin also assists with Corporate Investigations and Anti-bribery and Corruption matters and in doing so, formulates effective compliance programmes for businesses to safeguard against the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) violations.
In the field of dispute resolution, he has assisted in the execution of a court order against former employees of an IT solution company for, amongst others, conspiracy, unlawful interference with trade and breach of employment contract, and assisted a leading international offshore oilfield service provider in pursuing a civil claim for breach of fiduciary duties, fraud and negligence of its former directors. Yun Jin has garnered ample experience in handling domestic and international arbitration and is involved in court proceedings including injunctions, summary judgment, striking out applications, winding-up petitions, garnishee proceedings, security for costs involving multinational companies.
A graduate of University of Northumbria, Yun Jin is highly proficient in both spoken and written in English and Malay languages. He is also conversant in Cantonese. He is admitted as an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia since year 2015.

Advised a Japanese battery manufacturer in successfully invalidating and expunging a substantially similar trademark in Malaysia on the basis that it was, amongst others, obtained by way of fraud.
Advised a client specialising in motor accessories on an online programme to monitor counterfeits across various online distribution channels in Malaysia and implemented effective takedown procedures of infringing IP content from the Internet.
Advised a multinational oil and gas company in its investment in the generation of electricity from rooftop solar photovoltaic panels and the preparation and revision of template agreements including framework agreement, private power purchase agreements (which includes a net energy metering component) and lease agreements.
