Suaran advises clients on matters related to dispute resolution, IP, and TMT.

With over two decades of experience, Suaran is highly regarded in litigation and had acted in several landmark cases in Malaysia, and was involved in one of the longest IP trials in Malaysia. Forming part of the trainers of the International Advocacy Training Council, under which the Malaysian Bar is an affiliate member, Suaran often provides training for other lawyers on advocacy skills encompassing case analysis, drafting and using arguments, making oral submissions, cross-examining witnesses in trials, and putting forward a strong and persuasive case.

Well-versed in matters related to cybersecurity, information technology and personal data protection laws, he regularly advises on regulatory compliance issues, and the practices and policies in the Asia-Pacific region. In doing so, he regularly advises one of the oldest telcos in Malaysia.

Suaran was one of the founding partners of LAW Partnership in 2019.

Suaran has served on the boards and committees of the Malaysian Bar Council as the co-chair for the IP Committee, the Ad-Hoc Committee on Personal Data Protection, and the IT Committee. He was also the Vice-President of the Future in Tech Committee and was involved in the drafting of the Malaysian Forum Code.

Notable Work Highlights
Advising a software technology company on conducting a cross-border due diligence exercise in relation to the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of an Indian company, and its overseas subsidiaries and in doing so, encompassed an assessment of the company's corporate matters, human resources and employment matters, and intellectual property matters and existing rights.
Conducted a telecommunication-related due diligence exercise for a major telecommunications service provider with respect to its large-scale acquisition of another telecommunications service provider’s fibre optics network, infrastructure, assets, licenses, and liabilities, as well as assessing all risks involved, all aspects of liabilities, transactions, violations, the overall ownership of bandwidth, status of their land and tenancies.
Advised a company in Selangor with close to 30 subsidiaries and conducted a large-scale due diligence exercise with respect to their acquisition of a group of companies. In doing so, easily 15 years’ worth of corporate secretarial data of these subsidiaries were assessed.
Conducted a due diligence exercise for a Malaysian integrated oil and gas services group of companies involving the issuance of a number of financial instruments.
Conducted extensive due diligence exercise prior to an issuance of irredeemable convertible unsecured loan stock (ICULS) and redeemable convertible unsecured loan stock (RCULS) for a prominent private company in Malaysia.
Representing and advising an international company in defending against an employee’s demand for damages against the company’s subsidiary pursuant to sexual harassment allegations levelled against former employees of the subsidiary.
Successfully provided strategic advice and assistance to a British multinational information technology company for the preparation of documentation to conduct urgent employment transfers from the incumbent company to the Client’s company.
Representing a Malaysian company, being part of a global group of companies, in an appeal filed by the Appellant (Applicant) at the Court of Appeal against the dismissal of a judicial review application to quash the Industrial Court award which found that the Appellant was not unfairly dismissed.
Representing the Defendant in a claim brought by the Plaintiff on the construction and management of a facility in Lumut, Perak in Malaysia whereby the issues involve points of contract law and legislation concerning the interpretation of parties’ obligations under a complex agreement in relation to the setting-up of trust funds.
Successfully represented a global conglomerate specialising in water, fluid, thermal management, and equipment protection in contempt proceedings brought against the company director for disobeying a judgment of the court.
Represented a client in a copyright infringement suit against his company which specialises in developing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems and infrastructure in an employment law matter.
Acted for one of the largest sugar producers in the country in legal proceedings against a former employee for, amongst others, breach of confidence in a matter that involves subsequent solicitation of confidential information post-employment.
Representing and advising the former premier of Malaysia in relation to adverse social media postings and assisting to handle the same with the local authorities and the social media platform.
Represented parties in a complex dispute involving shareholders’ and guarantee agreements wherein the issue concerned the interpretation of waivers and dispensations which were successfully used to win their appeal.
Acted for a major Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate in defending proceedings filed for alleged damages due to construction activities leading to the dismissal of the alleged claim against the client.
Acted for a company involved in the design, manufacture and trade of IT solutions and related hardware on the invalidation of the Utility Innovation previously filed due to the existence of prior art.
Successfully represented a franchisee of handmade rock candy-style lollies and candy art in a breach of confidence that involved theft of trade secrets by an ex-employee and by extension, the competing company.
