LAW Partnership Expands White-Collar Crime and Corporate Investigations and Dispute Resolution Practice Groups with New Partner Appointment

KUALA LUMPUR, 31 July 2023 – LAW Partnership (LAW) is delighted to announce the appointment of its newest Partner, Ariff Firman, effective July 2023, marking the expansion of the White-Collar Crime and Corporate Investigations (WCCI) and Dispute Resolution (DR) practice groups.

Ariff brings with him a wealth of experience in financial regulatory affairs, with a remarkable track record of successful prosecutions of financial and white-collar crimes under various acts, including the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, Financial Services Act, and Money Services Business Act.

His legal journey began in 2008 as a Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) in the Prosecution Division (Commercial Crimes Unit) of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) in Putrajaya. He also served as a Federal Counsel in the Research Division of the AGC before resuming his duties as a prosecutor.

Subsequently, Ariff joined Bank Negara Malaysia, the central bank of Malaysia, as a Legal Counsel, where he played a key role in prosecuting financial and white-collar crimes in the country. He then continued his journey by joining the Legal and Regulatory Affairs Department of the Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia (FIMM), a body mandated by the Securities Commission to govern and regulate the investment management industry in Malaysia.

Ariff held prominent positions as the head of the legal and compliance departments of reputable investment companies in Malaysia, including a prominent regional investment management company and an Islamic fund management company.

With a deep understanding of the regulatory compliance and due diligence requirements in matters involving anti-money laundering, licensing, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, as well as the development of control policies and procedures, Ariff’s addition will not only strengthen the firm’s capability for white-collar crime and corporate investigations, including financial and white collar crimes defence and counselling, but will also supplement the LAW’s corporate, commercial and M&A (CCMA) practice group.
